Smart Start - More transparency in the process needed.
My state, AZ, requires that a report be received no earlier than 35 days prior the eligibility date for removal. Because I work a 8-5 m-f job the days available to me for performing the calibrations landed on Saturdays, since Smart Start isn't open on Sundays for calibration or installation/removal.
The only other option is to miss work, which means loss of wages which makes the penalty of this device even more costly. My last calibration I completed landed on day 38th left of my punishment, because of this I will have to get another $75 calibration completed before I can pay the $150 removal. Smart Start is refusing to help out with reducing this cost and apparently were unaware of the MVD's requirements of 35 day report. As I see it there are 3 solutions to this that seem fair for all parties involved.
They could either extend their operation hours to make it easier for those of us that work M-F 8-5, offer a prorated or discounted calibration rate for the portion of the fee that isn't collected by the state when your monthly appointments land so close to your eligibility date or lastly discount the removal cost if you had a calibration performed 3-5 days prior. These would be fair solutions while still insuring that the offender learns from their transgression.
Reason of review: Pricing issue.
Monetary Loss: $225.
